Luke 9:37-43
37 On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him. 38 And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. 39 And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him. 40 And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.” 41 Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.” 42 While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 43 And all were astonished at the majesty of God.
In the name of the Father and the ᛭ Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. He bears with us. Jesus comes into our midst and deals with our sin. This is the hardest part for us. We don’t know how to deal with our sin. Jesus does. He must go to the cross for us. He must die so that we will live. He sends his Holy Spirit that we would have faith. This Holy Spirit plants it in our hearts. Thus, we are Jesus’ faithful generation because of his work among us. This Holy Spirit delivers the cross to you. In the proclamation of the Word and in the giving of the Sacraments you receive the gifts of heaven. You are made whole and new in Jesus. In the name of ᛭ Jesus. Amen.
You may utilize the Order of Daily Prayer for Individuals and Families (pages 295-298) in Lutheran Service Book for your family prayers.
The Collect of the Day:
Almighty and everlasting God, the heavenly Father who shows the light of truth to those who are in error so that they may return into the way of righteousness, cause all who are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's Church to avoid those things that are contrary to their profession and to follow all such things that are agreeable thereto; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
